At the annual gathering of ARES for scholarship recipients, the Academy for Research and Higher Education (ARES) decided to address the challenges of decolonization in the context of development cooperation. The event took place on the 20th of October 2023, at IHECS, a partner of ARES.
Initially, participants had the opportunity to explore Brussels through the lens of colonization in urban space, thanks to a virtual tour of the city led by Gaspard Giersé, co-founder of ‘Les visites de mon voisin’. The afternoon continued with a discussion based on the Policy Supporting Research (PSR) reports from VLIR-UOS and ARES, focusing on decolonization in the context of development cooperation.
Participants then enjoyed a meal provided by Freddy met Curry while admiring the booths of ARES partner countries hosted by scholarship recipients.
The evening concluded with a dance floor session featuring DJette Rokia Bamba during a festive networking moment.
